Layer by Layer

I wanted to do something a little different this time.
As you scroll down, you'll see the graphic stripped layer by layer.  Hope this gives you a better visual understanding of how I pull together an image...

Here are the sources for the images used in my
"Thurbers' Kitchen Soap" graphic:

*Vintage Images*

*Altered Bits*

*Home and Heart*

*The Graphics Fairy*

I also use free software to create my images.
It's called GIMP, and can be downloaded here.

All graphics from this post are
free for your personal use ~ Enjoy!

Thanks for stopping by & have a great day!

    1. Hi Janet :) I'm so glad this helped you visualize what I do... it's all about layers! As for the other technical aspects, it's much easier for me to do than explain... but I think the same could be said for poetry, right?

    1. That's great! If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask :) Here some tips for functions I use all the time. Hope you find them helpful:

      1. As soon as you open GIMP, select 'File', then New. Click on Template, then select US letter. This gives you a standard size "sheet of paper" to work with. If you need to crop the image later, it's no problem.

      2. If you want to add a second graphic to your first, go to 'File' and select Open layers. Then to be able to blend it, go to 'Layers' and select Transparency. Click on Add Alpha Channel. Now when you erase, you'll see the image underneath instead of solid white.

      3. To change the size of a graphic, go to 'Layer' and select Scale Layer... I use this all the time in order to get the right proportions.

Don't forget to check out my Pinterest free graphics categories for inspiration :) Have a great day!

  7. You are a talented lady. More importantly, a generous spirit! I am in awe of what you create especially in GIMP. I always thought one had to be Photoshop Guru to make these. You have given me hope and your images are so inspiring! Thanks so much for sharing them.
